HSBC has said it will shut 69 bank branches amid the shift to online banking, in a move affecting around 400 staff. In a statement, the bank confirmed the decision was taken as part of its “transformation” into how branches operate within individual communities.
West Bridgford's HSBC on Central Avenue and Ilkeston's branch on Bath Street will both close alongside 67 others in the UK. The bank has pledged to offer more varied services for its customers outside of the traditional banking model.
However, the result of this will see 69 branches close throughout the country, which many vulnerable customers may be reliant on. West Bridgford's HSBC will shut on September 15, 2022. And the Ilkeston bank branch will close on September 22, 2022, the bank confirmed.

A spokesman for the bank added that it hopes to redeploy all 400 staff to new roles within 15 miles of their homes.
Jackie Uhi, head of HSBC UK’s branch network, said: “The way people bank is changing – something the pandemic has accelerated. Our branches continue to support people with their more complex banking needs, but the way we can do this has also evolved, with the addition of banking hubs, community pop ups and continued use of the Post Office network.
"Rather than a one-size-fits-all branch approach, it’s an approach built around the way different customers are choosing to bank in different areas.”

HSBC has confirmed its bank branch in Kingston will close sometime this year but a set date has yet to be determined.
