DEHRADUN: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday kicked off its mega election campaign in poll-bound Uttarakhand as the party’s star campaigners descended on the state on Tuesday. While Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur campaigned in Sahaspur and Vikasnagar assembly segments, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar reached Haldwani to woo the voters.
Addressing a gathering in Haldwani, Khattar said, "Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee created Uttarakhand in 2000, and also gave a special package for its overall development. The package continued till 2004 only, as it was discontinued when Congress came to power at the centre."
Khattar said PM Narendra Modi has a special fondness for Uttarakhand and has taken several initiatives for the development of the state, which includes the Char Dham all-weather project and the reconstruction of Kedarnath. BJP national president JP Nadda will conduct a door-to-door campaign in Uttarkashi and Ramnagar on February 3. Union home minister Amit Shah will be conducting a door-to-door campaign in Pithoragarh and Narendra Nagar constituencies on February 4.
