How you can change WhatsApp messages after sending thanks to new update

People using WhatsApp will now be able to edit messages thanks to a new update. There will be a 15-minute window in which messages already sent can now be changed.

It means mistakes can be corrected or users can take back something they regret sending. While contacts will know you have edited the message, indicated by a small 'edited' sign, the app will not show an edit history so nobody will know what's been altered, Daily Star reports.

In a statement, WhatsApp said: "From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we're excited to bring you more control over your chats. All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose 'Edit' from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after.

"Edited messages will display 'edited' alongside them, so those you're messaging are aware of the correction without showing edit history."

To edit sent messages, long-press on any message you've sent then tap 'Edit' on the menu that pops up. The texts can then be updated quickly and easily.

WhatsApp is one of the few messaging apps without an edit button or function. Only recently has an 'unsend' messages function been added, which would completely remove a message from a chat rather than allowing any corrections.
