The opening scenes of the BBC’s new show Champion set the show’s tone nicely. Siblings Vita and Bosco are backstage at a rap gig. The crowd is yelling, Bosco is having a meltdown and Vita is trying to reassure him.
Then Bosco steps out in front of the audience and it all changes. The picture of confidence, he launches into his first song and the crowd goes wild – expertly delivering his set before finishing with an ode to the beauty of black women.
