How Usher took over Las Vegas long before the 2024 Super Bowl came to town

The NFL has completely taken over Las Vegas for the week with the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

As we know, Usher is going to be the musical act for this year’s halftime show during Super Bowl 58. It should be quite the show to remember. Usher has hits on top of hits that he could play for everyone watching. He’s been doing this, basically, for a little more than 30 years at this point.

It feels so appropriate that Usher is doing the show for Las Vegas’ first Super Bowl. It’s not just because he’s so good, which, don’t get me wrong — he definitely is that.

But he also has become the king of Las Vegas over the last year or so — way before he was ever selected to perform at the Super Bowl.

Wait, what? What do you mean by that?

Usher has been the man in Vegas since 2021, when he started his first Vegas Residency at The Coliseum at Caesar’s Palace. It was a 20-show residency, and every single night was sold out.

He parlayed that into another residency at the Park MGM starting in July of 2022. Of course, those dates sold out, too. In total, Usher did 100 shows at Park. The residency lasted from July of 2022 to December of 2023.

There’s a reason GQ called the man the king of Las Vegas.

Wow. Now that you mention it, I do remember all of those Usher shows!

Right? The shows were all over the internet. Usher’s performances were so good that they were going viral.

They even caused a bit of drama, too. Remember the whole Keke Palmer thing? That was pretty wild. It was a great highlight, though. So was him serenading the entire Las Vegas Aces team.

Oh, and he had a special performance for A’ja Wilson, specifically.

WHEW.

Man, that was fun! Is the Super Bowl going to be anything like that?

I mean, let’s be honest. It’s a family-friendly program, so it probably won’t be as steamy.

That’s fine, though! The music will still be good. You can still pop, lock and drop it from your couch at home. And if you’re itching to see Usher perform again on a stage like that, he’s got a tour coming up, too.

That tour will be fun. Will it be anything like Vegas? Knowing Usher, probably.
