How Tottenham could line-up if Antonio Conte makes quadruple transfer move on former club

Tottenham Hotspur could be set to field a stunning starting XI should they complete a quadruple raid on Antonio Conte’s former club Inter Milan during the upcoming summer transfer window. The north Londoners have been linked with a move for a wide variety of Inter players following the Italian’s arrival at the club.

As of yet, none of them have sealed switches to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Fabio Paratici instead utilising his links at Juventus to secure moves for the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur. The pair have proven to be successes in north London but now Spurs could be set for a raid on the current Italian champions.

According to Tuttosport, Inter would potentially be willing to cash-in on a number of their current squad as they aim for an overhaul in the summer. As per the reports, the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni could be set to wave goodbye to the San Siro sooner rather than later - all having been linked with a move to Spurs at some point or the other in the past.

With that being said, football.london has taken a close look at how the north Londoners could be set to line up with a quadruple swoop for the Inter Milan quartet.

Defence

Should the likes of Skriniar and de Vrij be signed this summer, then the Spurs defence under Antonio Conte could be set for quite the overhaul. Hugo Lloris would likely remain between the sticks, with the Spurs captain still having two years to run on his contract in north London.

However, the back three in front of him would look very different indeed. Skriniar - a long term target who has reportedly rejected a move to north London in the past - would take the place of Eric Dier, despite Conte being a fan of the Englishman.

Meanwhile, conventional left-back Ben Davies would also suffer the same fate as his current Spurs teammate. He would likely swap places with Dutchman Stefan de Vrij with it being reported in the past that the north London outfit were ready to offer a contract to the former Lazio man.

The only central defender to retain his place would be Argentine Cristian Romero. He has impressed hugely in his debut campaign in north London and appears to be a long-term option for Conte.

That would of course leave little room for Bastoni - the Italian having only recently been linked with a switch to Spurs by CalcioMercato.

Midfield

Unlike the defence, there is unlikely to be a huge overhaul in midfield, with Conte having seemingly settled on his preferred system. Winter signing Bentancur has impressed in a deep-lying role since his switch from Juventus and has built-up a good understanding alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

This would leave academy pair Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp to provide support should either of the aforementioned duo not be available for any reason.

The midfield pairing would also be supported by two attacking full-backs in what would become a midfield four when on the attack. Sergio Reguilon would occupy the left wing-back role, whilst Brazilian Emerson Royal would be selected on the opposite flank.

Attack

The forward positions is where a real debate can begin, with an intense battle to claim a place at the top end of the pitch. Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min appear automatic picks for Conte, with the pair having plundered 40 goals between them in all competitions so far this term.

Kulusevski would also hope to be selected by Conte, with the Swede having impressed since his January arrival in north London. In just under four months since becoming a Spurs player, he has three goals and six assists to his name.

However, he could potentially be one of the shock candidates to drop out of the side should Tottenham complete a move for Martinez. The Argentine has found the back of the net on 17 occasions so far this term - that following a season where he struck 19 times.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham on a few occasions in the past. The north London club even agreed a £60m fee for the striker last summer but in the end a move did not come off, with Inter electing not to sell after they agreed to Romelu Lukaku’s exit to Chelsea.

Whether Spurs can complete a swoop this time around remains to be seen but Martinez’s addition at the top end of the pitch would see the club field a stunning attack.

Potential starting XI: Lloris; Reguilon, Skriniar, Romero, de Vrij, Emerson; Hjobjerg, Bentancur; Son, Martinez, Kane.
