The Subject Line Is the Whole Decision
The average corporate inbox in India receives between 80 and 120 emails on a working day. Your recipient makes a keep-or-skip call in under three seconds, and that call happens entirely on the subject line. A vague subject, "Regarding the project" or "Quick question", signals that reading the email will cost the recipient more time than they have. A specific subject signals the opposite.Write the subject line last, after you know exactly what you are asking. Keep it under eight words. State the ask or the deadline, not the topic. "Approval needed: vendor contract by Thursday" beats "Vendor contract update" every time. If the email is time-sensitive, put the date in the subject, not the word "urgent", "urgent" has been overused to the point of invisibility, but "by 3 PM Friday" is a fact the recipient can act on.
