How to watch Twisters

Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos and Glen Powell in Twisters.

One of What to Watch’s most anticipated summer blockbuster movies of 2024, Twisters is finally spinning its way to audiences. Eager to see Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones chase some tornadoes? Then you've come to the right place, as we have all the info you need on when and where you can watch Twisters.

Though it is carrying on the legacy of 1996's classic blockbuster Twister, the 2024 new movie does not consider itself a sequel to the original movie or a reboot, as there is no real connection between the two movies aside from it being about storm chasers (but there is an Easter egg for fans to enjoy). Even so, the new movie is a worthy successor to the original, as our Twisters review details.

Read on to find out exactly how you can watch Twisters right now, including whether or not the movie is available to stream.

How to watch Twisters in movie theaters

Twisters is playing in movie theaters worldwide. You can find showtimes for the movie at different theaters in your area by checking out the official Twisters website or by using Fandango. With either site, you'll be shown all of the theaters and showtimes for Twisters in your area, plus you can buy your tickets directly online.

If you have a particular movie theater that you frequent, another way to not only find out when Twisters is playing but also potentially save some money on the ticket is through movie theater subscriptions and membership programs. These offerings, provided by various US and UK movie theater chains, allow participants to get free/discounted movie tickets or a monthly allotment of movies at a set price. They also provide deals on concessions and other moviegoing perks.

Is Twisters streaming?

You can now watch Twisters at home. No the movie is not available on any of the major streaming services, but it is now available to rent via digital on-demand platforms in the US.

That includes Prime Video, Google Play, Fandango at Home, Apple TV and YouTube. You can rent the movie starting at $19.99 for a 48-hour viewing window, or you can own a digital copy of the movie for $24.99.

We're still not sure when Twisters may make its way to a streaming service, but as a Universal Pictures movie, it will almost certainly premiere on Peacock

What else to know about Twisters

Twisters is directed by Minari filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung and was written by Mark L. Smith from a story by Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. Here is the synopsis:

Kate Carter, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City, is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi, to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens, the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew; the more dangerous the better. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, Javi and their crews find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

Powell and Edgar-Jones headline the Twisters cast that also includes Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Harry Hadden-Patton, David Corenswet, Daryl McCormack, Tunde Adebimple, Katy O’Brian, Nik Dodani and Kiernan Shipka.

In addition to our positive review, Twisters is getting solid notices from critics, with it officially "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes.
