It's had more build-up than a heavyweight boxing title match and it seems as if the gloves will be off when broadcaster Piers Morgan interviews his former friend and former US President Donald Trump on TV tonight (Monday, April 25). Morgan, 57, had a tense and confrontational interview with Trump, 75, for TalkTV which is due to air at 8pm.
Heavily teased on Morgan's twitter account, which has almost eight million followers, the interview has already been given global publicity after a row over a trailer that the former President said had been selectively edited to make it appear as if he stormed off The pair are seen in the clip arguing over Trump's unproven claim that the last US election was rigged.
The 75-minute interview, which took place at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, will be screened on TalkTV on Monday at 8pm. Viewers in the UK can see it on Sky 526, Virgin Media 627, Freeview 237 and Freesat 217.
Last week, in one of a number of media appearances ahead of the interview, Morgan made his return to ITV a year after storming off Good Morning Britain during a discussion about the Duchess of Sussex. Morgan arrived on the set of Lorraine to the sound of Guess Who’s Back by Eminem.
He said of Mr Trump: “He says it was a rigged election and he now says I have a rigged promo. All I would say is watch the interview – it will all be there. We won’t be doing any duplicitous editing. The president, I am afraid, got very heated with me because he thinks that he should have won the last election.
“He has taken it very badly that he didn’t and he has concocted a story with no evidence so far that it was all fraudulent, that the voting system was fraudulent and that he somehow had it stolen.
“I said to him, ‘I don’t believe that, I think you lost’ and he didn’t like that, so we had a very animated and heated discussion about it, which I think people will find fascinating.” Morgan then pretended to storm off the set of Lorraine, echoing his surprise departure in March last year.
