A first Test defeat by Italy last time out was a new low for the Red Rose, and they now find themselves fighting to avoid this Six Nations being remembered as their worst ever.
Their oldest rivals France, meanwhile, have one hand on the title, and might already have secured the silverware by now had they not been stunned by Scotland last weekend.
Despite that disappointing trip to Edinburgh, they come into this match atop the standings, level on points with Gregor Townsend’s side but boasting a considerable points difference advantage.
Victory at Stade de France should be enough to get them over the line, though a bonus point would put their title beyond doubt.
Borthwick, hoping to save his job, has only made one change to the side which was beaten by Italy, introducing Ollie Chessum into the pack.
