The Argentina vs England rivalry moves to the rugby pitch today in the Nations Championship.

Steve Borthwick’s side finish their summer schedule with a long trip to the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero, just three days after England’s football team were stunned by a late comeback from Argentina in a dramatic World Cup semi-final.

England went into this inaugural Northern Hemisphere vs Southern Hemisphere competition reeling from their historically bad Six Nations campaign, before being brushed aside 45-21 by the reigning world champion Springboks in South Africa.

However, their run of five consecutive defeats was halted on home soil in what was actually a designated away game in Liverpool last weekend, finally finding some momentum as they produced 11 tries during a devastating 73-8 mauling of Fiji at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium that included a stylish second-half hat-trick off the bench from Henry Pollock.

Having named an unchanged team, they will hope to now carry some confidence into their latest clash with Argentina, who were unable to resist swashbuckling Scotland’s attacking verve in a 47-38 loss on opening day before bouncing back swiftly with a 35-21 defeat of Wales.

More fireworks between these fierce foes look guaranteed, eight months on from a feisty 27-23 England win at Twickenham in the autumn in which tempers flared and Tom Curry clashed with Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi in the tunnel after the match.
