For a fleeting moment last week, Black Ops 6 players were able to use their old double XP tokens from Modern Warfare 2 or 3 to rank up faster.
But, that turned out to be a UI bug (unleashed by the season 1 update last week) that botched the game’s stability and was swiftly patched – thereby throwing a wrench in the race to being Prestige Master.
After a torrent of criticism from players, fan accounts and Call of Duty streamers, Treyarch has clarified that stockpiled double XP tokens are still available to use on Black Ops 6 with a new workaround.
This should tide players over until they are implemented as normal as part of a future update, according to the developer.
So, for players looking to make progress on their weapons, battle pass or level, here is what they need to do.
How to use double XP tokens on Black Ops 6
With the start of Season 01, a UI bug allowed players to activate legacy XP tokens in Black Ops 6. Unfortunately, it also introduced some potential risk to game stability, which is why it was patched yesterday.

We realize how much players appreciate being able to redeem legacy…
To clarify, any new XP tokens earned from the BO6 season 1 Battle Pass are still accessible. Furthermore, you can also apply leftover XP tokens from Modern Warfare 2 or 3 to multiplayer by activating them on Warzone and then switching over. Both of these can be done in the same way: By clicking the left analogue stick (aka L3) on your PS5 or Xbox controller and choosing the double XP token you want to activate.
Considering you have to launch the two game modes separately from the Call of Duty HQ app, this so-called workaround isn’t exactly the smoothest, but it still beats not having any old XP tokens at all.
Also, don’t forget that all three of the online game modes (Multiplayer, Warzone and Zombies) count toward your overall progression.
Has Black Ops 6 been updated?
Following the release of season 1, Activision has issued two patches to fix the bugs associated with the update.
These include the audio issues that made it harder to hear enemy footsteps and parachutes on Warzone, along with various weapon damage and overall XP fixes (which you can read in full here).
