Federal prosecutors in Chicago have accused 33 known defendants of nonimmigration crimes tied to Operation Midway Blitz. Many were accused of assaulting or resisting federal agents or officers.
Two defendants have pleaded guilty. Twenty-four have been cleared. Grand jurors refused to indict at least three of the 24, and another member of that group was found not guilty at trial.
It’s also been revealed that grand jurors initially refused to hand up an additional indictment. But prosecutors went on to secure an indictment in their case against six of the defendants, now known as the “Broadview Six.” They have been cleared.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have entered into deferred-prosecution agreements with five additional defendants. In each of those cases, if that person abides by certain terms over a set period of time, the feds have agreed to drop the charges in that case as well.
