Taking a screenshot on your Apple Mac is an easy way to share whatever you're seeing on the screen.
It could be this is essential for your work, or you may just want to share something with a friend.
If it's a social media message you want to send to a friend, it could be helpful to capture part of your screen.
If it's an error message you want to send to tech support, it may be helpful to send a picture of the whole screen so they can see what's going on.
Whatever your reasoning, it's good to know that there are several easy ways to take a screenshot on your Mac.
Here we explain four of the easiest ways, so you can capture your screen, whatever your reasoning.
Capturing the whole screen
Apple make it very easy to take a screenshot of the whole Mac screen.
There is a handy shortcut which involves pressing and holding three keys together – shift, command and 3.
You will see a thumbnail of the screenshot in the corner of your screen. You can click it if you would like to edit it.
Alternatively, wait and it will save to your desktop.
Capturing part of the screen
If you only need to take a screenshot of part of the screen, this is easily done.
Simply press and hold three keys together as a shortcut – shift, command and 4.
You'll now see a crosshair appear on screen, which you can use to select the area you can to capture.
To move the selection, press and hold the Space bar while dragging. If you want to cancel the screenshot, simply press Esc (Escape).
Release your move or trackpad button and it will take the screenshot.
Capture a window or menu
You can easily take a picture of a specific window or menu by pressing and holding shift, command and 5. Tiger select the Capture Selected Window option in the toolbar.
You will see the pointer change to a camera icon, which you can move over a window to highlight it. Click to save the image.
You can switch back and forth between capturing a custom selection and grabbing a specific menu by clicking the space bar.
Take a screenshot of your Touch Bar
If you've got a 16-inch MacBook Pro, or a different version with a Touch Bar, you can actually screenshot what it's showing.
Simply hit command, shift and 6 to take a screenshot of your Touch Bar.
The image will pop up it the corner, and also save to your Desktop.
