How to sample different cuisines from around the world without leaving Nottingham

There has been a huge boost in street food businesses in recent years and Nottingham is no exception. The city is home to some of the best street food businesses which offer everything from incredible loaded fries to mouthwatering BBQ chicken wings even gravity-defying stacked burgers.

If you are looking for a challenge then why not try to sample food from the different cultures that the city has to offer? As with all street food and pop-ups, do your research before you go as not all businesses are in the same place twice and you'll need to find their social media sites to see where they are going to be next.

But with many, it's worth the extra fun to seek out their next location and pop in for some amazing menus. We've made a list of how to eat around the world without leaving Nottingham.

Carolina's Chilli

Carolina's Chilli is a pop-up that offers the very best in Mexican comfort food favourites with a vegan and gluten-free twist. Think chilli-loaded fries, BBQ strip tacos with esquites salad, Mexican beans and cheese quesadillas. If your mouth is watering after that, it's worth noting the birria tacos with birria broth and apple sauce on the menu as it's not to be missed.

Thai

Prad Thai

Prad Thai pop-ups at many different markets but you can find them on occasion at Bustler Market in Sneinton. The menu boasts Thai classics such as Beef Brisket Massaman with melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket in a rich peanut and potato curry, served with cucumber pickle, fresh herbs and crispy shallots.

German

Get Wurst

What better to accompany a nice beer than some 'banging bratwurst?' If you fancy a real treat then give their Raclette fries and a Currywurst a go as it's the ultimate in cold weather comfort food. As with Bustler Market, the Get Wurst team aren't there all the time but if you spot their distinctive van then make sure to pop in.

Ethiopian

Abeyo Ethiopian cuisine

If you haven't tried Ethiopian food then you don't know what you are missing. It involves surprisingly hearty and filling cuisine thanks to a mix of lentil-based dishes and spongy injera which are pancake-sque items used to scoop up the food.

Abeyo offers a mix of different dishes in one box for £8.50 along with injera and hot sauces so you can try a real mix. Don't forget to add an Ethiopian coffee to your order too to finish it off perfectly.

Middle Eastern

Falafel Baffle

Falafel Baffle pop-up across Nottingham at different events and their food is always a delight. Inspired by the food that the chef grew up on which is Middle Eastern Israeli, there are a lot of dishes to choose from.

The falafels are full of intense spices and come with spices and dips to layer over the top. There are vegan and vegetarian options while the falafel is gluten-free.

Umai Oriental Street Food Café

The café is tucked away at the back of the mart on Goldsmith street so it's worth making your way through the aisles to get to it. Expect the unexpected here as there are some really unique dishes to try that aren't on the menu at most places.

This includes Japanese cheese and pork okonomiyaki which is a savoury type of pancake or Panko coated roasted pumpkin korokke with Japanese Kewpie mayo.

Korea

Taste of Korea

Taste of Korea is bringing real authentic Korean cooking to Nottingham. While there is plenty of kimchi rice or jajangmyeon, they also offer something for the weekend with breakfast items. Think Sunday breakfast such as gochujan marinated cucumber, crispy fried tofu with fresh red chilli topped with seasoned soya sauce, moly soup with beef.

Canadian

Squeaky Beaver Poutine

If you fancy something a bit naughty then Squeaky Beaver Poutine have you covered. Think chunky chips smothered in gravy complete with cheese curds and topped with onions or pickles. Poutine is a traditional Canadian treat that tastes just as amazing for lunch as it does after a few pints.

Malayasian

Syioklah

This is authentic Malaysian cooking at its best. There is a lot to sample here and it's difficult to narrow it down to just one dish. Menu highlights include the incredibly popular Nasi lemak which is coconut steamed rice served with freshly fried Malaysian chicken, spicy pickled vegetables, sambal, fried anchovies, roasted peanuts and boiled egg.

French

Madame Crepe

We couldn't resist saving something sweet for last as who can say no to a crepe? Certainly not us and definitely not to Madame Crepe's amazing French-inspired menu.

The menu includes pancake classics such as strawberries and Nutella or a sprinkling of nuts. But you can also order a cone crepe which comes with a flake in it and whipped cream.
