How to Run in Uma Racing – Running & Sprinting Guide

Running and sprinting is both the main basic mechanic in Uma Racing and the hardest and most important one to master for winning. Running is all about managing the yellow acceleration and blue stamina bar. I'll show you both how to run in Uma Racing and how to manage these bars with some extra tips.

Uma Racing: How to Run

The basic running mechanic of Uma Racing is starting to sprint by rapidly alternating tapping Q & E or Left & Right Mouse Button until your yellow bar reaches the white line. Once you're around the white line you can tap Q then E at a more relaxed pace while keeping your yellow bar around the white line. So what do these two bars and white line mean? As you alternate between Q/E or LMB/RMB the first yellow acceleration bar will fill up causing you to speed up. You will also see a white line on the yellow acceleration bar and here's how it interacts with the blue stamina bar:

  • Sprinting below white line (Running): If you keep the yellow bar below the white line you will begin to speed up and run at a moderate pace once slightly below the white line. As long as you're below the white line you won't drain your blue stamina bar and you'll regenerate it.
  • Sprinting above white line (Sprinting): If you keep the yellow bar above the white line you will begin to accelerate which slowly drains your blue stamina bar. If the blue stamina bar falls to 0, your character will decelerate as the yellow bar drops and eventually stop running as the blue stamina bar regenerates. Alternating between being slightly below the white line and slightly above is a great strategy for most of the game but not all (See below when to full sprint).
  • Sprinting at full yellow acceleration bar (Full sprint): This causes your character to lean forward and run at full sprint speed which rapidly drains your blue stamina bar as above with the same effect.

That's why I highly recommend keeping the yellow bar just below or slightly above the white line for optimal speed for most of the race. But there are exceptions as you'll see below.

When to Full Sprint

Running and pushing the yellow bar above the white line causes you to rapidly accelerate and reaching the top causes you to go full sprint and drain your stamina. So when should you do it? Here are the best scenarios:

  • Start of the race: Doing well on the quick-time-event at the start of the race means you can accelerate faster than those who didn't do it well enough so this is one of the better times to go full sprint and score an early lead. Just don't overdo it and allow the yellow bar to drop down a bit so you can regen stamina once you see the blue bar reach about 40% to 50%.
  • Corners: There are three corners on the map that trigger quick-time-events and doing well on them regenerates some of your stamina. It's a good idea to Full Sprint for a short time here since you'll get some stamina back.
  • Final Spurt: This is the last fifth of the map just before the finish line, so set yourself up to use your entire stamina bar for a full sprint before reaching the finish line. This is the time to go all out.

How to Spurt in Uma Racing

You can Spurt by pressing R and you can only do it twice per match. Spurting stops you shortly before rapidly accelerating so you can use it to overtake someone or build your lead. The best time to use it is during full speed for maximum momentum. However, note that Spurting drains stamina fast so learning how to manage stamina before Spurting is crucial. For example a good time to use it is when your stamina is high or you have a no-stamina-drain effect from Uma abilities.

Uma Racing Running Styles

There are three running styles in Uma Racing and each Uma falls under one of these. They slightly modify how fast you run and your stamina usage. You can see all the style modifiers and Umas below but the basics are as follows. Front Runner uses more Stamina but accelerates faster which is good for early leads. Late Surger has reduced stamina use and increased stamina regen but runs the slowest and decelerates fastest so they're best at the end. Pace Chaser is somewhere in the middle of these two for a balanced playstyle.

Running Style Umas With This Style Style Bonuses
Front Runner Silence Suzuka
[Max Speed: +5%]
[Stamina Use: +20% (uses more stamina)]
[Stamina Regen: -10% (slower recovery)]
[Speed Gain: +15% (slower acceleration)]
[Speed Decay: -5% (holds speed longer)]

Good for leading early but drains stamina faster
Pace Chaser Tamamo Cross
Rice Shower
Oguri Cap
Daiwa Scarlet
Air Groove
[Max Speed: Normal (no boost)]
[Stamina Use: -15% (more stamina efficient)]
[Stamina Regen: +10% (faster recovery)]
[Speed Gain: -5% (slower acceleration)]
[Speed Decay: -8% (holds speed longer)]

Balanced style
Late Surger Gold Ship
Haru Urara
[Max Speed: +7% ]
[Stamina Use: -16% (very stamina efficient)]
[Stamina Regen: +15% (fast recovery)]
[Speed Gain: -6.5% (slow start)]
[Speed Decay: +10% (loses speed quickly if not pushed)]

Weak early, but strong in the final burst
