How to Master Bohemian Style Without Looking Like You're Stuck in the Late 60s or Early 70s

Boho style has morphed from a trend into a staple. (Credit: Courtesy of Let Me Be)

Fashion is full of trends and staples. The former include indulging in anything Brat Green and any core craze. Like tenniscore or cowboy core. The latter are sartorial building blocks. Think the perfect LBD, a slightly boxy blazer, a jean jacket, a bohemian blouse, etc. Now just because something qualifies as a necessity doesn't mean it's easy to define or that its definition stays the same. So with so many searching "what is bohemian style" on Google, we think it's high time we answer the question.

The best way to describe boho is that it's free-spirited, giving off hippie vibes. But make it fashion. Key components include ruffles, lace, flared jeans, crochet, suede bags and a pair of clogs or two. To keep things more down to earth, try not to assemble all of the components into one outfit. You can pair your flared jeans with a ruffled blouse, but resist the urge to work in a suede bag and clogs.

This modern approach also makes it easier to incorporate boho into your wardrobe. Start with one piece at a time. Chloe is your best designer source. Especially with the fashion house's new creative director picking up the mantle. Ulla Johnson is another fail-safe with the designer consistently supplying frilly must-haves in her runway lineups. If your current budget is of a more modest nature, no problem. Everyone from Zara to Mango to COS to Free People to Anthropologie and even H&M can help you (affordably) get into the boho spirit.

Now that you know exactly what boho style is, it's time to shop. Here are our favorite essentials to help you find your inner bohemian.
