"I can't do anything tonight - I'm washing my hair." Yes - that old chestnut - but if we're being completely truthful many of us would like to get away with washing our hair as little as possible during the summer months.
Some of us may suffer with greasy hair anyway, but with the warmer days approaching, our roots are set to get extra sticky. There's nothing worse than sweaty hair that glistens in the sun (for all the wrong reasons), so we thought we'd give you a few hacks on how to make your hair look good without having to wash it every day.
Dominic Roach, creative director of colour at Butchers Salon told Glamour : “Many people find greasiness is worse in the warmer months. With rising body temperatures, sweating is on the increase, allowing sweat to mix with the sebum on the scalp, hence spreading more greasiness."

But it's not just the sweat that will lead to greasy hair, as the weather can actually contribute in itself. This is because as moisture increases in the air, we end up having more of it in our hair.
Even pushing your sunglasses back into your hair can help transfer oil onto the roots - so how do we hide the grease as much as possible? Here are some beauty hacks to help you out.
Don't be tempted to wash it too much!
When you start feeling like your hair is greasy all the time, you're likely to try and wash it every day. This becomes a vicious cycle, but the advice is to try and reduce the amount of times you wash it.
If you've fallen into the trap, hair experts say the best thing to do is gradually start washing less and opt for shampoos that are free from sulphate. These shampoos should work to help clarify the hair.
Cut back on products
Overdoing it with products or conditioners can lead to greasier hair, especially by applying them directly to the roots. It equates to creating a somewhat heavy and greasy look.
Styling products can have the same effect when over-used. Less is more - especially when it comes to keeping your hair looking clean.
Have faith in dry shampoo
This is essential if you're looking to wash your hair less, but keep it looking as fresh as possible. Not to mention, it can also help to add volume.
Roach told Glamour: "Add it to your root area to absorb excess oils, sweat and impurities. It can also create volume and texture in yesterday’s hair do." If you have a sensitive scalp, some hair experts say the best thing to do is apply it to brush and then comb it through the hair.
Be resourceful with your conditioner
Some people think using conditioner can lead to greasier-looking locks, but it can actually do some good if used correctly. The key is to only use a little of it, and only apply it to the ends of the hair.
The closer to the roots you apply it, the more likely your hair is to become greasy - so don't use it as a way to try and cut through a web of tangled hair. Instead opt for a wet brush to aid with tangle, as the bristles are nice and soft so shouldn't lead to any breakage, but they're also tough enough to get through the pesky knots.
Rinse, rinse, rinse!
On the days you do wash your hair, it's essential you ensure there's no product left behind on your scalp. Make sure there's not a single trace of bubbles anywhere.
This is because when product builds up it can lead to making your hair look both heavier and greasier as the days go on.
Keep it off your face
It may seem a silly hack, but one of the best things you can do is to tie your hair back into something like a bun. This is because keeping your hair away from your sweaty neck or oily face will help to keep it clean, and will also prevent you from touching it all the time and transferring dirt onto the hair.
