War… war never changes. And neither does the enduring appeal of Fallout: New Vegas, the jankiest little post-apocalyptic RPG that could. With the second season of the TV show setting its sights on the fate of post-nuclear Nevada, it's probably the best time to try out this classic FPS/RPG hybrid if you haven't already, and maybe give the Mojave wasteland another visit if you've been away for a while.
Despite working with the wonky engine of Fallout 3 and saddled with a tight deadline, Obsidian delivered something truly special with New Vegas. A smart, reactive sandbox where your path and choices with its feuding factions led to some genuinely satisfying outcomes, and the sense of you really authoring your own adventure—a feat that even Fallout 4 struggled to live up to. While it caught some flak at launch for its shoddy state, DLC and patches brought New Vegas up to acceptable standards.
