With Christmas just around the corner, it's time for themed everything, including Messenger and Instagram chats, to make sure you're fully in the festive spirit before the weekend.
On both platforms, you can activate the Christmas theme, which gives your chats a Christmas jumper as the background which features a green reindeer in the centre and red snowflakes around it on a cream backdrop. On Messenger, it will also change the chat's emoji to a Christmas tree.
Not only that, but when you're making Christmas plans and wishing friends a Merry Christmas, festive word effects will appear for the words 'tree', 'presents', and 'Santa' when you send them in the chat. Here's how to get the theme on Facebook and Instagram.

- Tap the conversation name at the top of the screen, then hit 'theme' (underneath the options to mute the chat, etc.)
- Select the Christmas theme from the list, and this will take you to a preview of what the chat will look like
- Click 'select' in the bottom right corner, and enjoy!
On Instagram:
Open the app on your phone or other device, and open the conversation you want to change the theme for
Tap the conversation name at the top of the screen, then hit 'theme' in the chat settings
Select the Christmas theme from the list, and it will immediately change the theme on the chat (there's no preview option)
Note: The Christmas theme is only available on Instagram if you have the latest version of the app. You'll know you do if the chat icon in the top right corner of the app looks like the Messenger icon instead of the arrow it used to be. You can download any updates in the App Store or Google Play store.
