On top of your stamina meter, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has one extra meter to worry about this time: your battery. Here's how you can get more.
If you're anything like me, the majority of your playtime in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom hasn't been spent trying to repel the evil that has overtaken Hyrule and has put its denizens in grave danger. No, it's been spent trying to make the dumbest contraptions possible to see what you can get away with by using the incredible new Ultrahand mechanic.
But whether you're using your time in the latest The Legend of Zelda game to build expansive flying machines so you no longer have to walk, or trying to find the most elaborate ways to bring harm to the Koroks like some Twitter users have, you'll find yourself running out of battery.
Yes, Nintendo – not content with players complaining about the stamina meter – has added another meter for players to worry about in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the form of batteries (not that we're complaining, we gave it five stars for a reason). You start off being given a measly three cells during the game's tutorial – making up one full battery – but you'll notice there's slots for seven more batteries meaning you've got a lot of upgrading on the way.
But by the time you've filled them all I'm sure you'll be able to craft the doohickey of your dreams and fly all around the map without worry (until you crash because you've placed one of the fans slightly askew)
How to get more batteries in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
To get more batteries in Tears of the Kingdom you need to upgrade with Crystallized Charges. Assuming you didn't take the tutorial in some bizarre way, you would've come across some of the Forge Constructs in a cave on the Great Sky Island inside the Mining Cave. As the name suggests, these Constructs are operating a forge, and selling some of these Crystallized Charges in exchange for Zonaite which you can then use to get more batteries.
You'll need about 100 of these to upgrade one cell, which in turn means you'll need 2,100 of these to fully upgrade your battery to the 8 charge maximum.
You can get these Crystallized Charges from quests or chests, but your best bet is to head to the Depths map, where not only is there a surplus of Zonaite to mine, but Constructs selling these charges in larger quantities. You'll also be able to find Large Crystallized Charges from some vendors or bosses within the Depths which count as 20 chargers, but these are far more scarce.
You can also upgrade your battery at Crystal Refineries, and there's one next to the Nachoyah Shrine on the Great Sky Island. However, there's also one on a fallen piece of rock to the north of Lookout Landing on the Surface map, which is far more convenient to get to thanks to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and Kyononis Shrine being nearby fast travel points. Plus you can get some of your other errands done while you're there, like using a Goddess Statue to upgrade your health and stamina.
To get to to Crystal Refinery by Lookout Landing, you can either use Ascend to melt through the fallen piece of rock, or you can use your paraglider from the top of Purah's workshop to swoop down.
Or – in the spirit of this guide – you can use one of your flying contraptions to reach the top of said fallen chunk of rock to the north of Lookout Landing (there's usually an NPC sitting underneath it complaining that they can't get up there, just look for them). This rock has a Construct stationed above it who is ready and willing to upgrade your battery in exchange for cells .
