Many fake tan fans will know all too well the frustration of nipping for a quick wee while getting ready for a night out, only to sit up and find orange marks where your bottom has been. Luckily, you don't have to settle for a tangerine loo seat forevermore and can get your toilet sparkling once again by using one very everyday ingredient you'll probably already keep in your dressing table drawer.
Speaking at the House of Hacks in Leeds, the world's first-ever cleaning festival, homecare guru and author Lynsey Crombie, better known as Lynsey Queen of Clean, fielded questions from eager fans keen to hear her words of wisdom on all things spick and span.
During a Q&A session at the recent Wilko event, which was attended by Mirror reporter Julia Banim, savvy Lynsey shared how she would scrub dreaded tan marks from a toilet seat, and it really couldn't be simpler.
One attendee was curious about how to remove fake tan from inside shirts and bedding. Lynsey then jokily admitted she herself had recently ended up getting fake tan all over some hotel pillows, leaving her feeling 'so embarrassed'. Addressing others facing similar blushes, Lynsey suggested using a liquid laundry detergent as a pre-stain treatment, before moving on to the lesser-discussed topic of bronzed loo seats.
Lynsey advised: "A lot of people will put on a bit of fake tan and sit on the toilet. If you get it on your toilet seat: nail polish remover. Just wipe it off with nail polish remover, and it will just go. Otherwise, you're left with a bum print, and so you should do it quite quickly."
Lynsey also took the time to reveal how you can get ink or felt tip scribbles off your coffee table, a bugbear for many parents of little budding artists.
According to Lynsey: "I find toothpaste works really well with pens, if you scrub it in, it starts to break it down. If you get ink on clothes, hot milk is one of the old-school things that really works. Just rub it in."
