Hannah Teare: The colour alchemist
Acting Fashion Director, Tatler
I really love a bit of colour and would say don’t be afraid to step outside of grey, navy and black. Look to lovely burgundy, biscuits, red wine or jewel tones — they can be neutral but fun. If I’m in need of a parachute outfit, I am a big fan of keeping to the same colour and mixing texture. This is a Reiss suit and matching silk shirt in peacock blue — I love it for the day with a pair of trainers, a pop colour beanie and my Tissa Fontaneda bag. If you’re splurging, get a great blazer. With the proportions, anything goes. I’m personally over the whole oversized thing, but that is still a big go-to. In the evenings, I’m a fan of jeans, a bright, buttery cashmere and a stacked heel. In the office I’ll wear my Air Force, then switch to the Aquazzuras and a chandelier earring. It can be that simple. If you can’t be bothered for anything, just put on a good coat. It will get you through the day.
Hannah's picks:

“I love the vibe a beanie adds to any outfit - it immediately transforms a look from one kind of feeling to another."
“Love the cosy layered feeling of a velvet jacket with a chunky knit.”
“A chic neat crossbody satchel for city dashing.”
“You can’t go wrong with a great, colourful velvet blazer.”

I would recommend shopping vintage when it comes to autumn/winter outfits. You can find some amazing statement pieces there which you can mix in with your look and give it a bit of uniqueness. Today I’m wearing a second-hand tweed skirt which I found in an LA vintage store, a Comme des Garçons Play jumper, which I think is cute, and a shirt from Gap. I found this vintage motorcycle jacket on Depop for £70, which was amazing, and I’ve dressed it up with a Christian Louboutin shoe and patent sock. If you are investing in something, get one really great coat. I just found a lovely, vintage boxy Burberry. My top vintage haunts are Rellik on Golborne Road, Found and Vision near Portobello Market, and The 543 which is online. If I’m shopping on the high street, it’s Arket. Not too expensive, and they have some great pieces. My only real advice for dressing is just to wear what makes you happy, though.
"Denim Tears is a brand everyone needs to know."
"I love this denim skirt from Mango. Its giving me Junya vibes but without the dent in your bank account."
"Your staple boot in sultry brown is the perfect alternate to black."
"You cannot go wrong with a Comme Des Garcons play cardigan. Upgrade with a velvet kitten heel and you have your perfect day to night look."
"I wear chunky gold hoops every day. These ones from Missoma are an interesting twist on a classic."

The daytime-nighttime mix comes naturally to me — wearing a sequin skirt with a creamy, contrasting knit is something that I’ve always done, or a dressy evening shoe layered up with a chunky cashmere hiking sock. Wear something simple with crystal earrings for your 10am board meeting. My styling tip for 2023 is to play with texture: today, I’m wearing a shearling jacket from my favourite London brand 16Arlington, a sequin and pleated skirt and a beautiful cashmere twinset from Uniqlo. I’m also into uniform dressing. My formula is knitwear, heels and midi skirt, and I find quite a lot of freedom within that when I’m getting dressed in the morning. It’s a great foundation to then play with textures and acces - sories. We are told to invest in the staples, but I think it is really fun to invest in something that is a bit more of a statement — try the red tulle skirt!
“The festive fantasy dream. With slingback stilettos, wellingtons or ballet pumps.”
“Sweet slogan tees make for a chicer, savvier alternative to naff throwaway Christmas sweaters.”
“Ottange is the new shoe label to know. I love how these turn once-frumpy brown into an elegant proposition.”
“I’ll keep these in my bag over the next few weeks to turn even impromptu pub visits into a festive celebration.”
“These from Mango are surprisingly comfortable and take an anti-saccharine bite out of pretty party dresses. Dare you to wear them to the office, too.”

When I dress, I’m thinking: how can I make a really comfortable outfit out of really nice clothes? My jumper is a nice cashmere, my trousers are Issey Miyake — my go-to every single day — and a statement jacket from Bottega Veneta. You have to think architecturally about the effect you want to achieve, which is smooth and clean. Try a jumper with a high-waisted trouser and cropped jacket to create a little bit of interest. Save up for a really classic, single-breasted grey postman coat: like Ethan Hawke in Gattaca. COS has a very good one.
“Leopard print is a neutral, which makes these wearable with pretty much everything in your wardrobe.”
“Sometimes a beautiful cropped bomber won’t cut it in deepest winter. I love a grey postman coat — something Miuccia Prada would wear.”
“I really, really love this bag from Prada. It’s deliciously WASP-y, it’s sculptural, the colour goes with anything and everything, it’ll last a lifetime. To the top of the Christmas list it goes…”
"Winter isn’t really a time for wearing sunglasses – at least not in the UK – so if you’re going to do it, you probably need to be prepared to make a statement."
