Tau Ceti IV is filled with dangers, but those dangers are also where you can find the best loot in Marathon. Every map has multiple events that serve as an opportunity for you to make a profit, and one of the smaller events is the Tox Clear, featuring a room filled with toxic gas.
Here’s how to do the Tox Clear event in Marathon.
How to do the Tox Clear event in Marathon

The Tox Clear event is a room filled with toxic yellow gas. These events are marked on the map, first as an “undiscovered” question mark, and as you get close, the marker changes to a treasure icon. There are different types of events you may encounter, but the Tox Clear rooms are always in the same spots (although not all of them may be active in a given match).
Entering the room applies the Toxin debuff and drains your health, similar to toxic plants you may find in the wild. Toxin ignores shields and drains health very quickly, so unless you come prepared or know what to do, you’ll quickly die.

Here’s how to safely complete the Tox Clear event and get the loot inside the room:
- Find or bring into a run a Hazard Override Card.
- Take the Hazard Override Card to the nearby red laptop.
- Interact with the laptop to disable the toxic gas.
- Enter the room and grab the loot.
The Hazard Override Cards spawn almost anywhere and are similar to Lockbox Keys. Sometimes they can even spawn near the Tox Clear event itself, or you can always bring your own into the run. After clearing the gas, you have around 30 seconds until it turns back on, so be prepared to jump in immediately.
Whenever you open the door into the Tox Clear room, it’ll sound a loud alarm, alerting nearby Runners of your activity.
Alternatively, you can use a Mechanic’s Kit to apply a temporary protection against hazardous debuffs. It doesn’t make you invulnerable, as the room constantly applies Toxin, but it maximizes the hardware stat, reducing the debuff’s effects. It should give you enough time to quickly run in, loot a crate, and then get out. Using Triage’s Med-Drone can help you stay alive, too.
The loot in these rooms primarily features Enhanced items, with occasional Deluxe Salvage items or weapon mods. It’s not as great as in larger events, but it’s a nice bonus if you happen to come across it and still have some space in your backpack.
