Millions of Brits are eagerly planning to jet off for their first holidays abroad since lockdown over the summer, with Newcastle Airport recently seeing its ‘busiest half-term in years’.
But with news of delayed or cancelled flights causing airport disruption, including TUI cancelling hundreds of flights this June, many budding holidaymakers have been left concerned. The last thing anyone wants is to get to the airport only to find out that their flight is no longer taking off.
Luckily, BerkshireLive has issued some helpful advice to make sure you keep up to date with any news on your flight. This includes keeping an eye out on the social media pages of whichever airline you’re set to fly with, as updates on delays or cancellations may be announced on these channels.

It’s suggested that you check your flight on the day you're travelling, before you set off for the airport, by using your airline’s app or a third-party website like FlightAware Flight Tracker which allows you to search by flight number or route. Holidaymakers are also urged to keep an eye on their spam or junk folders, as travel companies may try to get in touch via email with important updates.
Airlines have dedicated flight trackers which enable customers to keep up to date with any changes to their travel plans. Here’s how to check that your flights are still going ahead if you’re travelling with one of the major UK airlines below.
TUI
TUI has a dedicated Flight Tracker for all of their planned journeys, which can be accessed via their website . You will be able to check the status of your flight by putting in your flight number, where you’re travelling from and your destination.
Ryanair
You can check the latest news on your Ryanair flight over on Ryanair’s Flight Tracker, with updates available on the Ryanair website . You will also receive a text notification if your flight has been subject to disruption.
easyJet
easyJet allows customers to keep up to date with their flight news in real time over on their Flight Tracker, accessed through their website or app. You can sign in with your booking reference and last name or account details if your flight is more than two days in advance.
Jet2
Jet2 also has a Flight Tracker where holidaymakers can check the status of their flight by searching for a departure and arrival airport or inputting their flight number on the Jet2 website . The section also has a ‘Latest Travel Information’ section providing regular updates on disruptions.
British Airways
People travelling with British Airways can check the latest on their flight via the airline’s Flight Tracker. The tracker is available through the British Airways website and their mobile app.
What should I do if my flight has been cancelled?
If your flight has been cancelled, the airline or company you booked your flight with should reach out to you as they have a duty to help you make alternative arrangements. If your flight is cancelled you will be entitled to a refund, rebooking on another flight, or vouchers - and if you need to eat or stay in a hotel while you wait for your next flight, this should also be paid for by your airline or travel company.
