Tickets are now on sale for Sunderland’s first game of the season against Coventry City at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, July 31, and will soon be available for their trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Wednesday, August 17.
Anticipation is building for the Black Cats’ return to the Championship after a four-year stint in the third tier. Alex Neil has taken a considered, patient approach to transfers so far this summer, with four deals over the line so far as he moulds his squad for the step up in division.
The Wearsiders welcome the Sky Blues first up in a 12pm kick-off on Sunday, which has been selected for TV coverage and will be played in front of the Sky Sports cameras, with there being plenty of interest surrounding Sunderland’s return to the Championship.

Neil’s side will take on the Blades in their second away fixture of the season, with Sunderland being allocated 2,725 away tickets, which should be snapped up quickly. It will be a good early test of the club’s Championship credentials in the first league meeting between the sides since 2017, during Sunderland’s previous season in the second tier.
