The Samford Bulldogs (26-5, 15-3 Southern) will look to bounce back from a disappointing showing last year, losing to the then-No. 7 seed Chattanooga Mocs (20-11, 12-6 Southern) in the quarterfinals. Samford — 15-3 in conference play for a 2nd straight regular season — is the No. 1 seed this year and led by forward Achor Achor, who is averaging 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
The UNC Greensboro Spartans (21-10, 12-6 Southern) enter as the No. 2 seed this season and were also bounced in the quarterfinals last year, losing as the 3rd seed to the then-No. 6 seed Wofford Terriers (17-14, 10-8 Southern).

Chattanooga may be the 3rd seed in the tournament, but it had the same record in conference play as UNC Greensboro this season and is coming off an appearance in last year’s final — an 88-79 loss to the Furman Paladins (16-15, 10-8 Southern).
Furman — the 5th seed this time around — is coming off a disappointing regular season after entering as the No. 1 seed last year and winning the tournament. To add insult to injury, Furman’s quarterfinals matchup is against the 4th-seeded Western Carolina Catamounts (16-15, 11-7 Southern), who feature the conference’s top scorer in guard Vonterius Woolbright (21.4 points per game).
