The Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky are getting ready to compete for a big prize. No, not the WNBA championship, that showdown could come at a later date for Tipico Sportsbook‘s two title favorites (Aces +170, Sky +185).
On Tuesday night, the two will be competing for the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship, an in-season tournament that rewards the winning team with $500,000 and donations to a charity of their choosing.
How did these two teams earn the right to the championship game?
Each WNBA team played in 10 Commissioner Cup tournament games during the first half of the regular season. The Aces and Sky ended with 9-1 records, giving them the top records in the Western and Eastern conferences.

During their regular-season journey, the two have already crossed paths twice. Game 1 saw the A’ja Wilson and crew roll into Chi-Town and hand the defending champs an L, but then the Sky came to Vegas shortly after and had perhaps the most unbelievable win of the season — a historically great 28-point comeback win.
So what should we expect in this winner-takes-the-money event?
Well, the Sky are playing this game at home where they have just two losses on the year — the best in the W. The Aces are responsible for one of those losses and are a better basketball team on the road (10-3) than they are at home in Vegas (10-5).
It’s really a toss-up if you’re trying to determine a winner; you could talk yourself into either at the moneyline, or even Chicago to cover at -2.5 (-150) or Las Vegas +2.5 (-105).

The over/under of 171.5, in reality, is a lot, and the 83-76 final score from their matchup back in May probably doesn’t instill confidence in those who are betting on the over. But these are the two highest-scoring teams in the league (Aces: 90.4 ppg, Sky: 85.6 ppg) and it should be expected we see a lot of points put on the board this Tuesday night.
