How should we represent Liverpool on the Eurovision postcard?

What should the BBC film to best represent Liverpool for the Eurovision Song Contest?

The Eurovision postcards give viewers a small insight into a nation's culture whilst acting as a transitional screen between acts. Previous years have honed in on traditional dance, food and theatre whereas others have opted for the simple flying of flags over instantly recognisable landmarks.

The 2022 competition captured drone footage throughout the country before finishing with a projection of the artist, usually on the side of a building. Although the 2023 competition in Liverpool is still several months away, the BBC has already started production on the next set of cards.

Usually, the postcards are filmed in the nation's capital or the host city. Despite Liverpool holding the event, the possibility remains the postcard could encapsulate the United Kingdom as a whole instead of focusing on Merseyside.

The BBC was said to have been open to ideas on what the 2023 postcards will look like with production expected to take place on December 13. Though planning is already underway, with Liverpool's incredible musical and cultural heritage, there is no shortage of ideas to pull from.

Ideas for the postcard include making use of the city's gorgeous Pier Head, boasting beautiful architecture and the very location for the upcoming Eurovision Village. Others have swayed towards emphasising the wealth of musical talent that has originated from Liverpool such as The Beatles, Gerry and The Peacemakers, or Eurovison's very own Sonya.

A shortlist for the production team has already been chosen but the themes, ideas and the final footage to be used in the show will remain top secret until May - possibly until the competition airs.
