3D printer that builds a house in 24 hours : Researchers at the University of Southern California developed a giant 3D concrete printer designed to build a 2,500-square-foot house in about 24 hours. Developed by Professor Behrokh Khoshnevis, the technology, known as Contour Crafting, used a computer-controlled gantry and a concrete-extruding nozzle to construct a house layer by layer.
The technology was developed from research into large-scale additive manufacturing, with Khoshnevis beginning work on contour-based extrusion methods in the mid-1990s before adapting the concept for construction by 2000. The system was designed to automate much of the construction process while reducing the time needed to build an entire home.
