How playing with Barbie dolls can improve children’s social skills

  • Dr. Sarah Gerson from Cardiff University explained that doll play encourages role-playing and narrative creation, which helps children practise social skills and develop 'theory of mind' – the ability to understand others' thoughts and feelings.
  • These findings come amidst concerns about high screen time among young children, with previous government research indicating that around 98% of children watch screens daily by age two.
