How new Manchester United sale timeframe impacts Chelsea and Arsenal transfers in Boehly repeat

Premier League giants Manchester United seem as though they are set for life without the Glazer family as their owners after years of protest from their supporters. The current regime revealed last week that they are exploring alternative options within their strategy for the operation of the club, including a full sale.

Unlike Chelsea's takeover from Boehly-Clearlake earlier this year, there's no strict timeframe over when a deal must be conducted for a full takeover. That's because of the Blues' unique situation in which their previous owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

They were given a sporting licence by the government to be able to continue operation, but Raine Group - an American bank in charge of the transaction - were given a time limit to get a completed deal over the line. While that won't be the case here, it will actually be Raine who oversee any sale after being appointed as advisors.

While there is no strict time limit on a sale - should they decide to go through with one - BBC Sport have reported that the Glazers are looking to sell the club by roughly spring of 2023. It would prove a quick turnaround in footballing terms, due to the many complications of buying a side.

Should that transaction go through before the end of the season, it could end up changing the transfer trajectory of their rivals too. On the one hand, like Chelsea in the summer, United could be slow out of the blocks in the following window as the new infrastructure and recruitment team is moulded to fit the view of the new owners.

On the other, there would be a fear that once they are in business, the Red Devils could throw their figurative weight around in the transfer market. Looking at the Blues in the window just gone, they made a record spend of £273.5million spent to rebuild the squad.

Chelsea's move for players like Christopher Nkunku, Endrick and Rafael Leao for next summer could be at threat, while for Arsenal they may be in a difficult battle for the likes of Cody Gakpo. While United are having a resurgence under new boss Erik ten Hag, that extra push from new owners could make them contenders again.
