How much Swansea residents will pay to use Skyline gondolas on Kilvey Hill as 'heavily discounted' prices are announced

The company behind proposals to develop a high-profile leisure destination at Kilvey Hill has announced plans to introduce a heavily discounted Swansea residents' annual pass in the hope of opening up the hill for all to experience, if plans are approved.

Skyline Enterprises, which is behind the plans, said local residents would be offered an annual pass costing £40 for adults, with seniors and children priced at just £20 (children under five will be free). A family of four (two adults and two children) would pay £100. The pass would entitle residents to a year of unlimited rides on the proposed gondola (cable car).

There would also be exclusive pass-holder discounts for Skyline activities, experiences and retail throughout the year, as well exclusive discounts for friends and family. Other activities would also be heavily discounted to resident’s pass holders – but costings for those are yet to be announced. Skyline Enterprises chief executive officer Geoff McDonald said the proposed attraction would be "very much for local people as well as providing a world class destination for visitors from the rest of the UK and beyond." He said: “It’s very important to us that Skyline Swansea is a well-loved asset, not just as a tourist attraction but as an all-weather facility for the local community to use. So, we’re delighted to be able to announce a heavily discounted resident’s pass so local people can use Skyline Swansea as often as they like and really see it as their own.

"Our intention is to open up Kilvey Hill for all ages and abilities to enjoy with our wheelchair and pram friendly gondolas. We want everyone to experience the fantastic benefits of Kilvey Hill and Skyline Swansea and we believe the resident’s pass allows that by offering such fantastic value for money.”

Skyline is holding a series of public consultation events this week, with detailed plans available for discussion and feedback as the company says it wants to work closely with the local community to shape the destination for the benefit of all. The drop-in sessions will take place on Wednesday, March 8, from 3pm until 7pm, at The Village Hotel, on Thursday, March 9, from 3pm until 7pm at Landore Social Club, and on Friday, March 10, from 10am until 2pm at Bonymaen Community Centre.

The proposals for Skyline Swansea include a cable car running from Landore Park & Ride to the top of Kilvey Hill, which the company has said does not pass over any homes, food and beverage outlets with viewing platforms across Swansea Bay and a non-motorised, gravity-fuelled downhill karting ride, known as the Luge, which is suitable for all ages,

It would also include a new technology similar to ziplines, which is suitable for all ages, the Sky Swing, providing views across the city and Swansea Bay, whilst existing pathways and biking trails would be retained and new ones created. Picnic areas would be introduced, and tree planting and environmental improvements would be carried out. Free and unhindered public access to the entire hill would be retained and improved with no obligation to use Skyline Swansea facilities, the company has said.

Skyline Enterprises general manager for international developments, Danny Luke, said: “We have been delivering top-class developments similar to this one for the past 50 years and we know how important it is to embrace the uniqueness of the sites we choose and to harness the support and the genuine buy-in of the local people.

"We know the people of Swansea have always valued Kilvey Hill as an important part of the natural fabric of their city. We want that to continue by ensuring local people become an integral part of its next very exciting chapter, too."

Final plans for Skyline Swansea are likely to be submitted for planning approval in the summer. If given the go-ahead, preliminary works are anticipated to begin on site towards the end of this year with completion due in 2025.
