Other compensation for Zuckerberg in 2022 included costs for personal travel and security for him and his family. It totaled $27.11 million, a slight increase from the 2021 total of $26.82 million, according to a MarketWatch story.
"That included $14.82 million for personal security at Zuckerberg’s residences and during personal travel, which was down $275,758 from $15.20 million the year before," the story said. "It also included $10 million to cover costs of additional security related to Zuckerberg’s and his family’s personal security."
Meta released a proxy filing statement that addressed security for Zuckerberg.
"Maintaining Mark’s safety while enabling him to go about his life with minimal disruption requires comprehensive and sophisticated resources," it said, according to Marketwatch. "Given the important role Mark plays at Meta, we have security measures in place for him that are in the best interest of the company."
The company said the Facebook founder's private aircraft use is a piece of his security measures.
"Mr. Zuckerberg uses private aircraft for personal travel in connection with his overall security program (including, beginning in 2022, a private aircraft that is indirectly and wholly owned by Mr. Zuckerberg and operated by an independent charter company)," the statement said. "On certain occasions, Mr. Zuckerberg may be accompanied by guests when using private aircraft."
The company elaborated on threats to Zuckerberg's safety that necessitate some of the security measures.
"Meta says it has identified 'specific threats' to Zuck 'as a result of the high-profile nature of being our founder, CEO, chair, and controlling shareholder. We believe that Mr Zuckerberg's role puts him in a unique position: he is synonymous with Meta and, as a result, negative sentiment regarding our company is directly associated with, and often transferred to, Mr Zuckerberg,'" the company added, according to The Register.
