When it comes to overspending on player transfers in the last 10 years, Everton are ranked in the top 10 clubs across Europe.
The Blues' transfer dealings have been pitted against those of their Premier League rivals and teams from across five of the top leagues in Europe. The results ranked Frank Lampard's side as ninth overall in the revealing run-down of leading names across the continent.
The CIES Football Observatory has analysed deals involving England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Although the Toffees are in the top 10, they were not the biggest overspending team from the Premier League. The data used is based on incomings since July 2012 and only for teams who have paid a fee for a minimum of 10 players during the 10-year stretch.

According to the findings, Everton have signed 29 players for a total of €747million, which was viewed to be €97million more than the market value of the players involved at the time of their transfers. Effectively, this means that the Blues have overspent by 15% on transfers in the past decade.
The Goodison outfit were not the worst offenders however. Manchester United spent €1.59billion on 33 players over the same period, overspending by €238million. The 18% overspend was not the biggest percentage in the list - Aston Villa were 35% above value and French side Rennes a whopping 45% - but in pure monetary terms the Red Devils have overspent the most.
Joining Manchester United in the top five over-spenders in Europe are Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Villa and Real Madrid. Two other Premier League teams were ranked above Everton, Chelsea - with an overspend of €135million - and Arsenal, who overspent by €129million. The Blues' city neighbours Liverpool were ranked 19th, with an overspend of €56million.
The CIES Football Observatory data also suggested that only three Premier League teams - Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers - have underpaid on market value in the past 10 years.
Transfers completed by triggering buy-out or option-to-buy clauses were not included in the sample. View the full report details HERE.
