Members of the New Zealand women's cricket team, which beat South Africa by 32 runs in the final of the Women's Twenty20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday, will split prize money of around US$2.3 million (Rs 19 crore) for clinching the tournament. The $2.3 million prize money is a 134 percent increase from the 2023 edition. Runners-up South Africa pocketed $1.17 million (Rs 9.8 crore) for their run to the title showdown.
That works out at around US$155,000 (Rs 1.3 crore) per team member, a huge windfall for players who for years have struggled for years to achieve financial parity with their male counterparts.
