Chelsea and Timo Werner just has not worked out.
Since joining the club back in July 2020 from RB Leipzig for a figure of around £47.7million, the 26-year-old has only made 44 goal contributions in the 89 appearances he has made in Blue over two campaigns. And despite a quick start to pre-season which saw the German net against Club America, certain comments that came out in the media during the US pre-season tour caused a breakdown in the relationship with manager Thomas Tuchel.
"I'm surprised, I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea Football Club," the manager responded. “I would be one of the happiest people on the planet." Fast forward to now and whilst Werner has been training at Cobham with the first team, whilst negotiations with RB Leipzig were ongoing, Tuchel decided to exclude his No.11 from the travelling squad for the Everton game hinting that a done deal was imminent.
