Arsenal could be set to receive over £1million of compensation from Gabriel Jesus' knee injury sustained while in Qatar at the World Cup with Brazil. The Gunners striker is likely to be out of action until February at the earlier after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday,
Jesus, 25, has become a key member of Mikel Arteta's squad since his big-money move from Manchester City in the summer. The Brazilian has led the Gunners alongside Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka this season grabbing five goals and registering another six assists.
It remains unclear whether technical director Edu will dip into the transfer market to seek out a short-term fix in attack. With the timeframe on Jesus' injury unclear, it may force Arsenal's transfer strategy to be re-jigged to ensure they avoid a drop-off of their form.

After the injury was picked up whilst Jesus was away on international duty with Brazil, The FIFA Club Protection Programme (CCP) ensures that the Gunners will receive monetary compensation from January onwards. The fee is not available for the first four weeks from the injury taking place but the insurance policy covers injuries to national team players for future months.
Installed by the European Club Association, the programme ensures that FIFA provides compensation for the losses encountered by the club (player salary) during the time the player is unavailable. In Jesus' case, Arsenal will be covered until the forward returns to full training (or competitive matches, whichever comes first).
Whilst it remains difficult to predict when Jesus will return, with early indications insisting February, the club will receive money from December 31 and football.london have worked out how much the north-Londoners will acquire. Payments are capped at €7.5million (£6.5million) for the year and with a daily rate of €20,548 (£17,748) being paid out after the first four weeks.
In January, the Gunners are due to receive £532,440 before reaching £1million of compensation in February with a further £496,944 added. If Jesus' return is delayed and he returns at the end of March, the club will pocket another £550,188.
Whilst the allocated compensation won't be enough to add much quality to Arteta's side, the £1.5million set to be added to the kitty could be an option as part of a loan fee to bring in a new striker on a six-month loan.
