How much Alexis Mac Allister could cost Liverpool
It's unclear exactly when Liverpool decided to officially pivot from their long-term interest in Jude Bellingham but an educated guess might land on the March international break.
As Jurgen Klopp faced the media ahead of a visit to Manchester City, the manager was asked if he had used the two-week period of national fixtures to get some groundwork done on summer transfer targets after what had been a difficult campaign to that point.
“[Recruitment planning] is the only thing we do in the international break, apart from have a few days off,” said Klopp. "The player side [was] positive, I would say. But [it was] talks not decisions – but we are busy."

Within days it had emerged that the club had opted to step away from the chase for the £130m-rated Bellingham in favour of spreading their summer transfer budget across a handful of other, less-costly options instead.
It was likened by some at the time as a similar situation to the decision to steer clear of a deal for Rio Ferdinand at West Ham United back in 1999 in favour of bringing in Sami Hyypia and Stephane Henchoz for a combined fee of around £5m.

Everton star drops major Khephren Thuram Liverpool transfer hint
Everton forward Neal Maupay has hinted that Khephren Thuram is close to becoming a Liverpool player.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who is the son of legendary French defender Lilian Thuram, enjoyed an impressive campaign for Nice this season. Thuram featured in 35 Ligue 1 games, scoring twice and claiming four assists.
And according to Maupay, speaking to French sports show GymTonic, Thuram could soon become Liverpool’s second midfield summer arrival after revealing the pair could be set to become “neighbours”. He said: “He’s a great player. We could be neighbours soon.”
