Two decades on from the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, Channel 5 has launched its new crime drama focused on Maxine Carr, which will come to an end on Wednesday night.
It was in early August 2022 that the 10-year-olds went missing together in the sleepy Cambridgeshire village of Soham. Their disappearance quickly went national as the country's press descended on a community who were desperate for the youngsters' safe return. But, as the search for Holly and Jessica intensified, the horrifying truth was that they were already dead, killed by Ian Huntley, a caretaker at nearby Soham College.
Huntley was the partner of Maxine Carr, a classroom assistant at the girls' school. Carr was out of the area at the time, visiting family in Grimsby, but ended up providing Huntley with a false alibi. He was charged with the murders of Holly and Jessica, after the Manchester United tops they were wearing when they disappeared were found in a bin at the college, with their bodies found at discovered in a ditch near RAF Lakenheath.
