How long will Adele's career break after Munich and Las Vegas residencies be? What history tells us

Adele ended her 10-date Munich residency by revealing plans to take another extended break from the music industry – but just how long will the Hello hitmaker be away for?

The north London-born singer is in the final months of a two-year stretch of concerts, having started her Weekends with Adele residency in Las Vegas back in November 2022.

Her gigs at Caesars Palace will run until November this year – by which point, she will have performed 100 shows at the iconic hotel.

As if that’s not enough, Adele completed her run at a purpose-built arena in Germany over the weekend, where she admitted to fans: “After [Vegas finishes], I will not see you for an incredibly long time.

“I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break, and I will fantasise about these shows and any shows that I’ve done over the last three years. It has been amazing, I just need a rest.

“I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it now.”

How long could Adele be away for this time?

Adele has so far released four albums and the gap between records has steadily increased as her career has gone on – so it might a fair assumption that Adele will take a longer break than she has before.

There were three years between her debut and sophomore releases – 19 and 21 – and then four years passed before her third record 25. Fans had to wait six years after 25 came out in 2015 to hear her latest effort, 30.

The Rolling in the Deep singer commented on the gaps between her albums, specifically the wait fans endured after 21’s release, as she accepted an award last December.

Speaking at the Hollywood Reporter‘s Women In Entertainment gala, Adele said: “The real reason that I’ve only had four albums and I don’t think that many people know this – they know that I have a child – my son is 11 years old.

“So, if you do the maths, that means that at the height of 21… I fell pregnant. To many that would be, and it was, considered career suicide.

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success, and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful.”

What has Adele been up to between albums?

As well as welcoming her son, Adele has experienced many other highs in the years between releasing records.

After each of her first three albums, she embarked on tours, performing in increasingly bigger venues and, in 2016, still promoting 25, she headlined Glastonbury.

In the same year, together with then-partner Simon Konecki and their son Angelo, Adele swapped London for sunny Los Angeles, purchasing her first home in Beverly Hills for $9.5m (£7.2m).

She then married Konecki two years later but the pair split soon after getting hitched, with Adele later telling British Vogue: “We got married when I was 30… and then I left."

Adele is currently in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul but – as she did while she was with Simon – the star has kept her private life, well, private.

She has candidly shared one plan for life after Vegas though: having a second child.

The star told the crowd at one of her Vegas gigs in May: “Once I am done with all my obligations, and stuff like that and all my shows, I’m going to have a baby. And I want a girl because I’ve already got a boy.”
