Leeds United brought their pre-season tour of Australia to an end on Friday following their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. The Whites beat Brisbane Roar in their opener last Thursday before losing to Aston Villa on Sunday morning, with plenty of positives to take and lessons to learn.
A concerted period of time with the squad has given Jesse Marsch the chance to implement his philosophy and there were signs Down Under that the players are picking it up. Meanwhile, defensive frailties were highlighted as a high-line was at times exposed to runners in behind.
One of the most exciting aspects of pre-season, however, was the chance for Whites fans to see this summer’s arrivals in action. Marsch included six new-boys in his 26-man squad Down Under and all featured to some degree. The majority of Leeds’ signings made a positive early impression, but it was not all plain sailing for others.
