How Leeds United's 10 summer departures have fared with Jesse Marsch call vindicated

Leeds United suffered a double blow in the summer as local hero Kalvin Phillips joined reigning champions Manchester City, and Raphinha signed for Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

Jesse Marsch also offloaded a further eight players during the summer transfer window, including Leif Davis (Ipswich Town), Elia Caprile (Bari), and Kiko Casilla (Getafe).

With that in mind, LeedsLive has taken a look at how Leeds' summer departures have been faring at their new clubs...

Kalvin Phillips

Competing with Rodri for a place in Manchester City's starting XI was always going to be a difficult task for Kalvin Phillips.

The Leeds-born midfielder was struck by a shoulder injury which almost saw him miss out on England's squad at the 2022 World Cup. And he was then dropped on his return after Pep Guardiola cited a 'lack of fitness' for the reason behind his omission.

Phillips has gradually been eased back into the first team fold by Pep Guardiola in recent weeks, and he even completed his first 90 minutes in a 3-0 win at Bristol City last month.

Raphinha

Raphinha initially struggled to adjust to life at Barcelona after arriving from Elland Road back in the summer. He found the net just twice in his opening 19 games, and was linked with a move away from the Camp Nou in January.

However, the Brazilian international has been given a new lease of life since Ousmane Dembele suffered an injury in January. Raphinha has been directly involved in 12 goals across his last 19 games in all competitions - scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

Leif Davis

Jesse Marsch took the decision to sell Leif Davis to Ipswich Town, despite being thin on the ground in terms of options at left-back.

Davis settled quickly at Portman Road and has become a pivotal figure as Ipswich continue to chase automatic promotion in League One under Kieran McKenna.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals and contributed 10 assists, which has only been bettered by Bristol Rovers attacker Aaron Collins' record of 11.

Kiko Casilla

Kiko Casilla's permanent return to Spain has been less than ideal. The former Real Madrid stopper has spent the season sitting in the shadows of David Soria at Getafe and is yet to play a single minute in La Liga this season.

He has been reduced to just two appearances across all competitions. He played 120 minutes in a 3-2 win over fourth-tier outfit San Roque Lepe in November, before featuring in the Copa del Rey third round in a 3-2 defeat at Levante in January.

Laurens De Bock

Laurens De Bock left Leeds on a free transfer to join Zulte Waregem after spending the previous two seasons on loan with the Belgian side. However, the left-back was on the move again just a few weeks later as he joined Greek top-flight outfit Atromitos Athens on a free transfer.

He was been an ever-present for Atromitos - amassing 28 appearances, and registering two assists across all competitions this term. But discipline has been a problem for the 30-year-old, who has served three one-match suspensions for his new employers.

Liam McCarron

Liam McCarron joined Championship side Stoke City in June last year. He then signed for Port Vale on loan and made just four appearances for the League One side across all competitions.

He returned to Stoke in January and played four games for the under-21s in the Premier League 2 in order to increase his game time.

Ryan Edmondson

Ryan Edmondson has thrived at Carlisle United despite enduring a number of spells out of the side due to injury. The 21-year-old dislocated his shoulder in December and was sidelined for three months, but has still played an important role in their promotion push.

He scored a 96th minute winner against Swindon Town at the County Ground earlier this month, and has found the net six times in 17 appearances in total.

Josh Galloway

Josh Galloway has struggled to establish himself in the Scottish fourth-tier with Annan Athletic. The 21-year-old has not started a game since October, and has scored two goals in 21 appearances this term.

Nohan Kenneh

Nohan Kenneh was a regular in the side after joining Hibernian and amassed 19 appearances during his first four months at the club.

However, he was sent on loan to fellow Scottish Premier League rivals Ross County in January, and has started seven of their last eight games (Kenneh only missed their 1-1 draw against Hibernian because he was ineligible to face his parent club).

Kenneh also received his first international call-up for Liberia ahead of a double-header against South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.

Elia Caprile

Elia Caprile has been a resounding success since trading Leeds for Italian second-tier outfit Bari. He has played every minute in their Serie B campaign so far - registering 11 clean sheets and conceding just 28 goals in 30 appearances.

The 21-year-old has even received admiring glances from the likes of Napoli and Benfica. Bari currently sit fourth in Serie B and trail the automatic promotion slots by six points.
