How Kylian Mbappe could leave PSG and who could afford him with Arsenal and Chelsea on watch

Kylian Mbappe has dramatically announced his intentions to leave PSG in January, with the world's highest paid footballer claiming to have been 'betrayed' by the club.

There will be no shortage of suitors, with Real Madrid having been the favourites to sign the star before he signed a new contract to remain in the city of his birth just this summer. However, events off the pitch appear to have led the France forward to change his stance on his future and is now appearing to be demanding a move away.

The 23-year-old will not be allowed to join Real Madrid as per the reports from Marca, and with his £625,000 per week wages there could be only limited options for the former Monaco man. The Premier League could be the Frenchman's only option due to the money required to secure a deal which may put Arsenal and Chelsea on alert as they may hope to seal a surprise deal for the star.

Why does Mbappe want to leave?

The news comes as a surprise given the new contract which was sealed by Mbappe and his representatives to give the forward a starring role at the club. However, disagreements with coach Christophe Galthier and a reported rift with Neymar have left Mbappe cutting a somewhat frustrated figure at times.

Where could he go in the Premier League?

At this moment in time, Chelsea and their new majority shareholder Todd Boehly could be the most likely option for Premier League clubs to move for the player. Chelsea have limited goalscoring options and Boehly has shown a willingness to spend big, with The Blues the highest spenders in the summer transfer market.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also expressed an interest in the World Cup winner previously, but the finances involved in any deal could be prohibitive for The Reds. A move to partner Mbappe with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden could also be of intrigue to the Manchester City hierarchy.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Arsenal could also provide options for the star, with the former able to fund any move with Cristiano Ronaldo potentially moving in the other direction as an option. Albeit Mbappe would be unlikely to accept a move to a club currently playing in the Europa League and out of the world's elite clubs.

It is an intriguing situation, and with the finances involved it will likely be one of the biggest deals in football history, should a move materialise for Mbappe.
