
In 2012, two years before the Narendra Modi government came to power, Indian tax authorities sought details of a trust in Switzerland, of which Kokilaben Ambani was the beneficiary.
Switzerland’s Federal Tax Administration refused this request. In 2018, India tried again, authorising the FTA to “make direct contact with the person concerned”. In July 2020, Swiss tax authorities finally agreed. On December 28, 2021, the Supreme Court in Switzerland validated India’s request to obtain details on the trust.
