How King Charles and Camilla spent night before their Coronation

Ahead of million people tuning in to watch the Coronation today, King Charles and Queen Camilla stole a quiet moment for themselves.

Today, the pair will be joined by 2,200 heads of state, kings and queens from across the globe, celebrities, everyday heroes and family and friends of the couple, and of course, Prince Harry.

So it's not surprising that they spent the evening last night by themselves, dining privately at Clarence House, before the big day.

Meanwhile Zara and Mike Tindall returned home at 2am after having dinner with other members of the Royal Family in Central London yesterday night.

The couple got the party started ahead of today's Coronation and were joined by Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne at Mayfair club Oswald's.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie also joined the dinner with their husbands and were pictured arriving at the private club, which had a floral arch at the entrance to greet the royals.

This morning, they are travelling to Buckingham Palace for final preparations ahead of their departure as guest flock into Westminster Abbey.

Royal fans with Union flags and crowns could be seen on trains and in Tube stations from just after 4.30am - and it seems unlikely that the turbulent weather will affect the millions expected to descend on London.

This morning, it was revealed that the controversial “Homage of the People” element of the service has been toned down.

Charles reportedly approved the change which came after a string of commentators criticised the new addition as divisive.

Broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, a friend of Charles who wrote the King’s authorised biography, said the monarch would find the Homage of the People “abhorrent”.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will now “invite” a show of support from the congregation rather than a “call” to those in the Abbey and elsewhere to swear allegiance to the King.

The coronation ceremony will end at 1pm and the newly crowned King and Queen will begin the procession back to Buckingham Palace in the gold state coach.

Some 4,000 sailors, soldiers, aviators and other military personnel from across the UK and the Commonwealth will accompany Charles and Camilla on their return procession. There will be more than 1,000 route liners from the Army, RAF and Royal Navy.

Invited guests include David and Victoria Beckham, musician Lionel Richie, French President Emmanuel Macron, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US First Lady Jill Biden but her husband President Joe Biden will not be attending.

Charles and Camilla are expected to enter Buckingham Palace through the centre arch at 1.33pm.

They will receive a salute from the military in the palace gardens at 1.45pm, and then at about 2.15pm they will be joined by members of the royal family on the palace balcony to watch the flypast.
