The backcourt pairing of Jrue Holiday and Derrick White looks like a winning formula. Both guards excel on the defensive end and can make impactful offensive plays. Neither guard will search out the spotlight, as they prefer to play their roles at an elite level. As such, the Boston Celtics star trio of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis are free to dominate on the offensive end.
According to White, who was speaking to the media following the Celtics’ October 26 win over the Miami Heat, Holiday’s commitment to “doing the little things” is what makes him such an ideal backcourt partner and why he’s been successful in his career.
“He does so many little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet,” White said. “It just helps us win games. So, having a guy like that on our team, where he probably doesn’t see the ball for 10 minutes and won’t complain, will just do what he needs to do and make a big shot down the stretch…He’s big time.”
The Celtics acquired Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers in a shock trade that saw Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams head to the rebuilding Western Conference franchise. Holiday is expected to have an important role for the Celtics this season.

If Holiday and White can develop a high-level partnership in the Celtics backcourt, they will be a significant part of the foundation upon which a potential championship run is going to be built.
