Vicky Phelan issued a positive update to her followers in her latest Instagram post after getting the go-ahead for a family trip to Spain.
The CervicalCheck headed away on a ‘wonderful’ trip with her two children, Amelia and Darragh, and her former partner Jim.
Posting to Instagram at the weekend, she wrote: "Just back home since yesterday evening from a much-needed, wonderful week away in Spain with Jim and the kids.
"I got the go-ahead a couple of weeks ago from my medical team that my disease was stable enough for me to go away on holidays and I jumped at the opportunity."
Since returning to Ireland she said: "I feel refreshed after a week away, some heat in my bones and a change of scenery.”
Vicky thanked the staff at Shannon Airport for making her trip over seamless and quick and said staff had them relaxing in the lounge just 20 minutes after arrival.
"The staff at Shannon could NOT have done more for us,” she said.
“I needed wheelchair assistance going through the airports and it all went seamlessly. We were in the airport, through security and relaxing in the lounge within 20 minutes of arriving."
This update will come as a relief for all that are following Vicky's cancer journey, and is a welcome change from November 2021, when she had to take a break from social media due to being 'too sick.'
In a statement in November 2021, Vicky said that she would not be continuing with chemotherapy, and the treatment plan was now just palliative.
She said she was hoping to make it as far as Christmas in 'good condition,' so that she could spend more time with her family.
Now, the Cervical Check campaigner says they’re planning to head away later in the summer if she is able to.
“We hope to get away again towards the end of the summer if my body cooperates but I would highly recommend Cambrils for families,” she concluded.
