How hot the Met Office say it will get in Wales with temperatures to soar higher than Turkey

After a week of heavy rain, more rain, and high winds there is some better weather news around the corner. Temperatures are set to rise and the sun is expected to make an appearance after a soggy end to the week.

The Met Office says it will "feel warm in the sunshine" and there will be "plenty of bright or sunny spells" next week. Temperatures of 16°C are being forecast by the Met Office in Cardiff, Usk and Swansea on Monday (April 17), with sunny spells for most of next week. There is more cloud around in western parts, including Aberystwyth, but there is still expected to be highs of 16°C on Monday.

The Met Office outlook for Wales from Sunday to Tuesday says: "Staying settled with plenty of bright or sunny spells. Perhaps turning cloudier at times though feeling warm especially in the sunshine. Winds light though slightly breezier on Tuesday."

Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir explains there will be a "change in air mass" over the weekend. That means higher temperatures and drier weather," she says. "We will see a cold start to Saturday with some pockets of frost. It will be bright with some sunshine through Saturday morning. There will be sparkling blue skies and it will feel warm in shelter.

"Saturday night into Sunday there could be another frost, but Sunday will start a bit more cloudy. The sun will come through the day and temperatures could reach 18 or 19°C, and into next week there will be some high temperatures around with some places reaching 20°C."

The long-range forecast is also looking positive for the UK until near the end of the month with temperatures forecast to be "well above average". The Met Office forecast for Tuesday, April 18 to Thursday, April 27 says: "Some cloud in the north on Tuesday, which may be thick enough to produce some light rain or drizzle. However, most places staying dry with sunny spells. Light or moderate winds, feeling warm for most but cooler near northern Sea coasts.

"Thereafter, much of the UK likely to be under the influence of high pressure producing fine, dry conditions. Cloudier skies and perhaps some dampness to the far west. Otherwise, some good cloud breaks likely, especially to the lee of high ground.

"Temperatures around average to rather warm. Eastern coastal areas likely cooler with an onshore breeze, also some locally chilly nights in good shelter. Increasing likelihood of some showers later in the week, especially in the SW. Temperatures above average, locally well above average."
