Tommy John, the former Major League Baseball pitcher whose name became synonymous with the groundbreaking elbow surgery that saved countless sporting careers, has died at his home in Bradenton, Florida, the New York Yankees confirmed on Sunday.
He was 83. The team did not disclose how John died, but said the four-time All-Star had been in hospice care after being diagnosed with bladder cancer and other ailments in recent years.
